Greetings,

Welcome to the 14th Texas Bursar’s Association annual conference, BUC$ on the Beach! It is a joyous occasion when colleagues and friends gather together to network, share ideas and experiences, and have a little…okay, okay, a LOT of fun! Thank you for joining us, we are glad you are here!

When first elected in 2005 to serve as the Public Institution Representative, I was deeply flattered and excited. For me, nothing could be more professionally rewarding than serving this outstanding organization for the past four years, being influential in its growth and development, and seeing it become one of the most respected entities in higher education.

It has been my extreme privilege to help build on the dream of one of the most phenomenal women I know…Pat Woods, the association founder. Pat’s professionalism, enthusiasm, sincere respect and caring for her colleagues and staff should serve as an example for all of us. Pat, I will forever be grateful for your friendship, inspiration and encouragement.

The success of this year’s event would not be possible without the dedication of the other Board members and their support staff. Ehren has been my rock and sounding board, always supportive, always reassuring. Kayle has been a wonderful influence, and contributor. Deveron has mastered the role of Treasurer. We have been blessed to have her keeping a watchful eye on our budget. Doug’s knowledge and expertise has transformed our communications and website to the 21st century. I know I speak for all board members by recognizing the invaluable contributions of the Audit Committee. They have been very influential in our business process development. I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the support, dedication, assistance and tolerance of my staff. My sincerest appreciation goes to my assistant, Glen Ray, a truly remarkable person and professional. Thanks Glen! To each of you, and to your staff, thank you. There are simply not enough words to adequately express my gratitude.

There is not enough that can be said about the generous contributions and support of our exhibitors and Tammy and Rob who served as commercial liaisons to the board. Without them, none of this would be possible. This year we are fortunate to have a few new companies joining us and are blessed by the return of many who have been with us for many years. Be sure to visit the Exhibitors Hall and give each of them a big Texas “Thanks!”

In the planning of this event, the board was resolute in our determination to improve and develop our business practices for the future success of the organization. We vowed to optimize our budget dollars to provide for you a beneficial and enjoyable professional development experience. We hope that you reap the rewards of our efforts by taking back to your institution useful information, valuable contacts, resources, and fond memories.

Now, slip on your sandals, head to the beach, relax and have a fabulous time! You deserve it!
