An overview of changes from the 81st Legislature, including the Hazlewood Act, other exemptions, and bills passed that should have hit institution radar.

Lois Hollis has worked in financial aid for over 25 years. From 2001 – 2007 she was the Assistant Commissioner for Student Services at the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board where she oversaw all state financial aid programs, tuition exemptions, and waivers as well as state residency issues and the ApplyTexas common admissions application. In September 2007, Lois became the Senior Advisor to the Deputy Commissioner. In this role she advises the Deputy Commissioners and the Commissioner of Higher Education on state and federal financial aid policy, tuition and fee issues, assists in overseeing the state financial aid programs, and handles special projects. In addition, Lois works closely with the State Legislature on affordability issues pertaining to college students.

Jane Caldwell was born and raised at the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. She has 36+ years’ experience in administration of financial aid programs, issues related to residency, tuition and fee exemptions, and waivers. She is responsible for the annual administration of more than $320 million in grant, scholarship, work-study, and exemption programs. Jane has her turn being the child in her family, along with husband Guy, an electrical engineer, and their 14-month-old greater Swiss mountain puppy named Logan.
